As has been the case for the past 15 years, the City of New Bedford’s Office of Housing & Community Development, acting in its capacity as the Continuum of Care’s (CoC’s) Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) lead, and on behalf of the CoC, has completed its annual “Point In Time” (PIT) count creating a census of those individuals and families experiencing homelessness within the city, both sheltered (living in emergency or transitional housing) and unsheltered (on the streets/in places not meant for human habitation). Concurrent with that has been the development of the CoC’s “Housing Inventory Count” (HIC) that provides an inventory of specific emergency, transitional and permanent housing opportunities for those experiencing homelessness within the (COC).
The results from the 2024 PIT and HIC were submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) in May 2024 consistent with U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) expectations. This data provides important information about those experiencing homelessness as well as the CoC’s portfolio of shelter and housing at a given time. You can also take a look here at the BCC 2024 COUNT to get a sense of the full CoC’s merged inventory, utilization rates and Point In Time Count!
Although a data set reflecting the newly merged “Bristol County Continuum of Care” (BCCC) was submitted to HUD, only New Bedford’s data has been translated into presentation format this year. As a result, several different options for considering New Bedford’s data exists:
PIT HIC PRESENTATION.2024 A PowerPoint presentation that includes statistics, trending and take-aways from the 2024 PIT and HIC.
PIT HIC TAKE AWAYS.2024 A separate bullet list highlighting major take-aways from the 2024 Count specific to New Bedford, only.
